Farewell to special effects wizard RAY HARRYHAUSEN
Fantasy films took on an entire new dimension with the artistry and
sheer imagination of Ray Harryhausen. His “Sinbad” series took us on
spectacular adventures with creatures that dazzled us, as did “Jason
And The Argonauts”, “20 Million Miles To Earth” and so many others.
His stop-motion figures had personality and seemed alive, his work
inspired so many others. I had the great opportunity to spend time with
him. Once, when this bizarre picture was taken at a masquerade ball, Ray
was one of the judges and I was “Maleficent” - typical of his dry sense of
humor he said - “Are you planning to transform into a fire
breathing dragon later this evening?”
